Quick answer
Dismantle ordinary objects for Scrap, preserve glinting valuables for the Extractor, and use empty crates to stage a safe return. Current version 1.0 videos also show a radiator craft-and-extract loop, but event modifiers and changing duplicate rewards mean there is no permanent Scrap-to-Gold rate to memorize.
Know which resource you are collecting
Scrap, Gold, and Artifact coins solve different problems. The official game description confirms the basic loop: break furniture for parts, feed valuables into machines, and use what comes home to rebuild the Outpost. Two release-day beginner videos make the distinction more practical:
- Scrap comes from dismantling ordinary constructs and is spent on building and Outpost repairs.
- Gold comes from loose coins, combat rewards, and objects turned in through the Extractor or Grinder. It pays for items and upgrades.
- Artifact coins feed the random blueprint system. They should not be treated as ordinary Gold just because they are another coin-shaped pickup.
Choose the resource before you start breaking a room. A Scrap run favors objects you can dismantle efficiently. A Gold run protects valuables long enough to reach the machine. Mixing the two without checking each object is how useful loot becomes low-value material.
Preserve glinting valuables
The August 7 post-launch guide from Tel’s Guides separates common, rare, and epic valuables by their visible glint and color. It also demonstrates that damaging an object can reduce its extraction value. That makes a valuable item a carrying problem, not a demolition target.
Sort before swinging:
- Read the object and its visible value.
- Move glinting or high-value objects away from the demolition pile.
- Dismantle the ordinary objects selected for Scrap.
- Stage valuables near the return route before creating more noise.
- Recheck damaged loot before relying on an older value.
Do not copy a fixed value table from one generated run. Rarity, condition, modifiers, and later patches can change the result. The reliable observation is directional: valuable objects belong in the extraction path, and avoidable damage makes that path worse.
Use crates and barrels as transport tools
Empty crates found in the Deep Layers can hold several smaller objects. The same post-launch footage uses them as improvised carts: load the container, move one bundle, and stage it close to the elevator or machine.
A separate August 9 crafting video demonstrates a craftable barrel carrying narrow objects while still leaving enough space for a Vessel to hide. It also warns that overfilling the barrel before climbing inside can cause unstable physics and damage. Treat hiding in a loaded barrel as a current community observation, not guaranteed protection.
For ordinary transport, keep the rule simpler:
- put small valuables inside instead of balancing them loosely;
- avoid filling above the rim when physics begin to shift;
- move the container through a route you already know;
- unload near the machine rather than fighting with a full container under pressure.
The container saves trips. It does not make the contents immune to damage or a failed extraction.
Convert spare Scrap with radiators
Current version 1.0 footage shows a second conversion route after you have enough Scrap: open the build menu in the Deep Layers, craft radiators, and feed those constructs into the Extractor for Gold. This can turn surplus building material into shop currency without waiting for a room full of natural valuables.
The August 9 radiator breakdown records this specific snapshot:
| Observed action | Version 1.0 video result |
|---|---|
| Craft three radiators | 360 Scrap total |
| Extract one radiator | 15 Gold before the shown modifier |
| Extract three during Double Gold | 90 Gold total |
Those figures describe one release-build recording, not a permanent recipe. The same video is running a Double Gold modifier, so its final payout cannot be copied as the normal return. Read both the live build cost and the machine value before committing a large Scrap balance.
Keep volatile radiators away from the Outpost
The useful conversion object is also hazardous. Tel’s August 7 guide shows radiators launching and exploding after being struck, while repeated hits can dismantle one before it detonates. Do not fill a permanent Outpost room with radiators just because they are compact and craftable.
For a safer conversion run:
- Gather the Scrap before committing to the build.
- Craft close enough to the turn-in route that carrying stays short.
- Keep combat and swinging objects away from the radiator stack.
- Feed the constructs into the machine before opening another branch.
- Stop after a small test if the current interface shows a changed value.
This also explains why a bed is not automatically the better conversion object even when a creator reports a similar Gold value: it costs more Scrap, occupies more space, and may have more value as recovery infrastructure.
Do not plan around duplicate blueprint numbers
Once a blueprint pool fills out, duplicate or already-owned rewards can become Scrap. Two current transcript checks disagree on the amount: the August 7 beginner video reports 500 Scrap, while the August 12 conversion video reports 450 for the demonstrated duplicate reward.
That difference may reflect a patch, reward type, or another condition the videos do not isolate. The safe conclusion is that duplicates can support later Scrap income. The unsafe conclusion is that every duplicate always pays one fixed amount.
Read the result shown after opening the current reward. Do not spend down to zero because an earlier video promised a precise refund.
Use a conversion-run checklist
Before turning a normal descent into a Scrap or Gold run, check:
- Did you choose Scrap, natural valuables, or crafted conversion as the primary objective?
- Are glinting valuables separated from the objects you plan to break?
- Is an empty crate or barrel making the return shorter rather than less stable?
- Is the elevator condition already understood and solvable?
- Does the live radiator cost and payout still justify a one-item test?
- Is a Double Gold or other modifier changing the result?
- Can you extract now without risking the completed conversion on another room?
The best money route is the one that returns. A smaller verified payout at the elevator is worth more than a perfect theoretical ratio lost in an optional branch.
