Minimum and recommended PC specifications

These are the specifications displayed on the official Steam store at the August 12, 2026 check. Hardware listings can change after performance patches, so use the live Steam page as the final pre-purchase check when this page’s verification date is older than the latest update.

The Steam listing does not publish a resolution, frame-rate, graphics preset, or CPU/GPU pairing behind those tiers. “Recommended” therefore should not be translated into a guaranteed 60 FPS target without a current benchmark using the same patch and settings.

Which PC platforms are officially supported?

The official FAQ says GRAIN ROT is available on Windows PC through Steam. It also says there are no plans for macOS or Linux support at the time of the launch FAQ.

That is a support statement, not a claim that every compatibility layer must fail. A player may report that a particular Linux or SteamOS setup launches, but a successful community test does not turn the platform into an officially supported configuration. Expect troubleshooting and regressions to carry more risk outside Windows.

The Steam store currently lists Windows 10 64-bit for both minimum and recommended. It does not separately promise Windows 11 in the requirements table. Windows 11 is generally compatible with software targeting modern Windows, but this page does not convert that expectation into a developer guarantee.

Is GRAIN ROT Steam Deck Verified?

No—not according to the current official FAQ. It says GRAIN ROT is not Steam Deck Verified and that the team cannot guarantee the experience on Steam Deck or other SteamOS devices at launch.

“Not Verified” is narrower than “will not run.” It means the official source does not provide Valve Verified status or a guaranteed experience. Community reports can be useful for one patch, but check all of the details before relying on them:

• the GRAIN ROT patch number;
• SteamOS and Proton version;
• native Deck or external display resolution;
• graphics settings and frame-rate cap;
• solo, host, or joining another lobby;
• the area being tested, not just the Outpost.

A five-minute launch test cannot establish performance across procedural Deep Layers, noisy fights, and a longer co-op session. If Deck support is a purchase requirement, check the live Steam compatibility panel and current official channels rather than treating one launch-week comment as certification.

Does the game support controllers?

Yes. The official FAQ says the launch version supports gamepads, and the official full-release preview listed gamepad support among the version 1.0 additions.

The Steam store’s feature row does not currently advertise a specific “Full Controller Support” badge or name supported controller models. Use the current in-game bindings as the authority for button layout, rebinding, and any action that still needs a mouse or keyboard.

If a controller action appears missing:

1. Confirm Steam detects the controller before launching the game.
2. Check the current in-game control menu and Steam Input state.
3. Test with the current GRAIN ROT patch.
4. Record the controller model and the exact action before reporting it.

Do not copy a Demo binding chart into the current build without rechecking it. The official launch preview also listed expanded game, audio, and video settings, so earlier menu footage may be incomplete.

Is broadband required for solo play?

The official requirements list broadband internet for both minimum and recommended configurations. The store does not explain whether that means every single-player action is always online, so this page does not make that stronger claim.

Online co-op uses player-hosted Steam lobbies. If the goal is multiplayer, plan for both the listed broadband connection and a working Steam friends/session state. The multiplayer guide covers invitations, lobby privacy, and the launch-week lobby patches.

For solo use, treat broadband as a published requirement and verify any offline behavior in the current build before relying on it for a trip or disconnected setup.

Should Demo or playtest saves be reused?

The official FAQ recommends starting a new save for the full release because version 1.0 substantially changed quests, balance, and progression. It says older Demo or playtest saves may still load, but they are not the recommended route to the intended launch experience.

If an old save produces a quest or progression problem, reproduce the issue on a fresh full-release save before assuming the current quest is broken. Preserve a copy of any save you care about before testing; this guide does not recommend deleting the original.

New players can continue with the current beginner guide. Players choosing between a solo and hosted session should also check the solo strategy and multiplayer requirements before the first descent.

Compatibility checklist before buying or reporting a bug

• Compare the CPU, GPU, memory, DirectX, storage, and OS against the live Steam listing.
• Leave headroom instead of assuming the minimum tier guarantees a specific FPS.
• Treat Steam Deck and SteamOS as unverified, not officially guaranteed.
• Treat gamepads as supported, but confirm the current binding for every required action.
• Use a fresh version 1.0 save when diagnosing progression inherited from the Demo.
• Include patch, hardware, settings, session role, and reproduction steps in a support report.

At this page’s verification time, the site is checked through Patch 1.06. Later performance or compatibility patches should override any launch-week observation here.
