How to Find and Replace the Fuse in GRAIN ROT

A broken fuse adds its own elevator requirement. Search chests, lockers, and other containers for a usable fuse, verify it is not the 0% durability broken one, carry it back to the elevator, and place it in the broken fuse slot before attempting extraction.

Quick answer

A broken fuse adds its own elevator requirement. Search chests, lockers, and other containers for a usable fuse, verify it is not the 0% durability broken one, carry it back to the elevator, and place it in the broken fuse slot before attempting extraction.

Why the elevator still will not leave

A broken fuse creates an extraction requirement separate from ordinary value. Filling the normal extraction target does not repair the electrical condition. Read every condition shown by the elevator instead of assuming the visible value bar is the entire escape checklist.

This distinction explains the most common failure: the team brings enough objects back, starts the final sequence, and only then notices that the fuse condition is unresolved. Begin fuse runs by inspecting the elevator and locating the broken slot.

Where to search for a replacement fuse

Both an older Steam discussion and current guide material point toward containers: chests, lockers, and other searchable storage. That is a search pattern, not a fixed-room guarantee. The Deep Layers change between runs, so work outward from the elevator and check containers branch by branch.

Use a controlled search route:

  1. Mark the elevator as the anchor.
  2. Clear one nearby branch and check its containers.
  3. Move useful items toward the return route.
  4. Return to the anchor before opening a distant branch.
  5. Stop optional looting once a usable replacement is secured.

A current guide also suggests that a Map Room table box can contain a fuse. That observation has not been elevated to a guaranteed spawn here. Treat it as another place worth checking when the room appears, not as proof that every run must contain that room or item combination.

When nobody else can maintain the return path, apply the shorter branch-and-return rhythm from the solo extraction guide rather than widening the search in several directions.

Check the fuse before trusting it

Current 1.0 guide material records a fuse showing Durability: 0%. That is the broken state, not a working replacement. Finding an object labelled as a fuse does not automatically complete the objective.

Inspect the item state in the current interface. If it is the damaged fuse, continue searching rather than assuming the seed is impossible. This small check prevents carrying the original problem back to the elevator and discovering the mistake under pressure.

Replace the broken fuse

Carry the usable fuse back to the elevator and interact with the broken fuse slot. Place the replacement where the current interface indicates. Then re-read the elevator status instead of immediately assuming the entire escape is ready.

The fuse is only one condition. Ordinary extraction value, a different modifier, or another run-specific requirement may still be incomplete. Finish the remaining condition while the return path is prepared.

If you are playing with a group, have one player maintain the route and watch for enemies while the carrier completes the interaction. If you are solo, clear the immediate elevator area before committing to the slot animation or inventory management.

If a Corrupted contact controls the elevator area, use the current enemy route rules instead of gambling the replacement fuse on an unsupported damage or stun value.

Can a compass replace the fuse?

A current community guide claims that a Compass can substitute for the fuse in this situation. We have not found enough current, time-stamped visual evidence to present that as a reliable 1.0 method.

Use a verified working fuse as the primary route. If the live interface explicitly accepts a Compass in your current version, treat that as an observed alternative and check the latest patch notes. Until that behavior is reproduced consistently, it should not replace the standard instructions above.

If no working fuse appears

Run through the failure checks in order:

  • confirm the elevator actually shows the broken-fuse condition;
  • search containers rather than only open floor spaces;
  • inspect fuse durability instead of relying on the object name;
  • revisit branches you crossed quickly, especially storage-heavy areas;
  • keep the elevator route known so a late find does not become a failed return.

Patch 1.02 fixed a launch bug that could prevent players from picking up coins or a fuse from some Deep Layers boxes. If the object is visible but cannot be collected, confirm the game is on Patch 1.02 or later before treating it as an intended item-state problem.

Because the layout is procedural, a single unsuccessful search does not prove a permanent bug or a fixed missing room. If repeated runs with the active condition never produce a usable item, capture the version, seed context if visible, and elevator state before reporting it through the official community.

Leave after the blocker is solved

Replacing the fuse is often the run’s highest-value achievement. Finish any remaining mandatory extraction condition and leave while the route is still controlled. Optional loot is easier to replace than a solved blocker lost during one unnecessary branch.
