How to Unlock the Second Floor in GRAIN ROT

Progress the prerequisite rescue and lost-key objective, find the key during a Deep Layers run, extract with it safely, and use it at the Outpost. Opening the door is not the final step: remaining Grain Rot must be burned away before the second-floor route fully opens.

Quick answer

Progress the prerequisite rescue and lost-key objective, find the key during a Deep Layers run, extract with it safely, and use it at the Outpost. Opening the door is not the final step: remaining Grain Rot must be burned away before the second-floor route fully opens.

What unlocks the second-floor objective

The second floor is part of the official 1.0 feature set, not a Demo-only rumor. Current progression material places it after prerequisite rescue progress and a lost-key objective. Follow the Outpost task flow until that objective is active before treating the key as your main search target.

The important distinction is between the objective becoming available and the key appearing in your run. The Deep Layers are procedural. A current video or guide can show what the item and interaction look like, but it cannot turn one recorded room into a guaranteed location for every seed.

Find the key without relying on a fixed room

Enter the Deep Layers with the key as the primary objective. Search systematically from the elevator anchor rather than copying a creator’s exact turns. Clear one branch, check the interactive spaces and containers that the current objective supports, then return toward the anchor before opening another long route.

Once the key is found, the risk calculation changes. You are carrying permanent progression. Prepare or finish the elevator condition before chasing unrelated value, and reduce the number of optional rooms you are willing to add.

If the key does not appear where a video showed it, do not assume the objective is broken. Recheck that the task is active, complete the current run cleanly if possible, and search a different generated route on the next descent.

Extract with the key

Finding the key is not enough; it must return to the Outpost. Read the elevator condition early and keep the path home simple. If the run has an independent blocker such as a broken fuse, solve that condition while the key is protected rather than discovering the problem during the final retreat.

Use the same conservative extraction checklist as a solo task-item run:

  • Is the elevator condition complete?
  • Is the return path known?
  • Is the key already secured?
  • Does another room offer anything more important than unlocking permanent progression?

In most cases, the fourth answer will be no. Leave.

Open the second floor at the Outpost

Return to the blocked second-floor route and use the recovered key where the current interaction indicates. Do not treat the door opening as the end of the sequence. Current evidence shows Grain Rot still obstructing progress beyond the lock.

Use fire to clear the remaining Rot. Fire is also a hazard to the Vessel, so approach the burn as a controlled interaction rather than standing inside ongoing damage. The exact geometry can be checked against the current interface and footage; this guide avoids presenting one camera angle as the only safe position.

After the upstairs route is available, the current umbrella and Scorch guide tracks the balcony item, co-op sharing observation, durability risk, conflicting shop claims, and an unresolved protection report through Patch 1.06.

What the second floor leads to

Current progression material connects the new area to Tink, a weapon Upgrader, and rooms that support permanent attributes. The observed directions include Critical Hit Chance, Stamina Recovery, and Sprint Speed.

Those labels are useful for understanding the purpose of the floor. Exact costs, increments, and maximum levels are not reproduced here because they need a current UI check and may change with balancing. Read the live interface before committing scarce resources based on an older screenshot.

The second floor also supports the path toward repairing or improving weapons. Keep “repair” and “boost” separate: restoring a damaged weapon and enhancing its capability are not automatically the same transaction.

If the second floor still will not open

Check the progression chain rather than repeatedly searching random rooms:

  1. Verify the prerequisite rescue progress is complete.
  2. Confirm the lost-key objective is active.
  3. Confirm the key actually extracted with the run.
  4. Return to the intended Outpost interaction.
  5. After unlocking, clear the remaining Grain Rot with fire.

If those states are all visible and the interaction still fails, compare your current game version with the latest patch notes and report the reproducible sequence through the official community channels. A useful report includes the active objective, the key state, and what the door interaction shows.

How to Get and Use the Umbrella in GRAIN ROT

Current post-launch sources independently place the first umbrella on the Outpost second-floor balcony. Use it as Scorch protection, keep co-op players close to the holder, and preserve its durability; later Murch availability is reported, but the required shop level and price are not consistent enough to publish as fixed facts.

How to Repair Weapons in GRAIN ROT Version 1.0

Weapon repair belongs to the version 1.0 second-floor progression around Tink and the weapon machine. Preserve a useful weapon before it is completely lost, and do not confuse repairing its condition with improving its stats or using Repairing Glue on unrelated damaged valuables.
